I'm not sure how you can forget that it is out of range. When you bring up your orders it shows you the location of the order. When you bring up the modify window it again shows you the location of the order. So you forgot where you were located? That's a... another problem altogether. The broker checks against your skills when you attempt to put the change through, if you don't have the skills you are notified that you cannot change it and why. If you don't know what skills you have, or where you are in space, you have much bigger problems than a few seconds of time lost that it took to attempt to modify the order.

Cut out unnecessary drag & drop A friend of mine tried EVE for a while, but didn't like it. He gave a few reasons, but one of them was the fact that it makes certain things way more complicated than they need to be. I think this might have been what he was talking about...
in the item hangar, there is an option that says "fit to active ship", so you don't always have to have Items and Fitting open (which causes clutter), and you don't have to drag & drop (which is more of a pain than right-click).
This is good. However, this convenient feature is absent in another area that needs it: cargo. If you're looting a wreck/container, you must always have your cargohold open, and the wreck/container open, and you must always drag & drop. Same goes for stations. If you want to move anything from the cargo to the item hangar, or vice versa, you must have two windows open, and you must drag and drop. It's stupid and unnecessary.
As someone else already stated, you can drop onto the cargo icon of your ship, it doesn't need to be open. Is opening your hanger and cargo hold really that difficult?

In the right-click menu, when the circumstances are appropriate, add a "scoop to cargohold" option for looting wrecks/containers, add a "move to hangar" option for moving items from the cargohold to the hangar, and add a "move to cargohold" option for moving items from the hangar to the cargohold.
I really have to ask why this is necessary. In the time it takes you to scroll through that right click menu to find the "move" or "scoop" you could have already drag and dropped. Seriously, drag and drop IS the easiest concept to grasp, it isn't rocket science. If this is game breaking stuff for your friend, obviously the game wasn't for him/her. Your complaints, as valid as they may seem, appear to be trivial so you can save some precious seconds or some perceived inconvenience. It's not that I don't like the ideas, but they're coming from a whine about how stupid, unnecessary and inconvenient the current system is, and I don't have any problems with the current system, or looting or moving items, and drag and drop is very simple...even a caveman could do it.
